Paulding-Putnam
Electric Cooperative
| Not-for-profit
energy cooperatives face a tough challenge in being stewards
of their resources. With their low operating margins, investments
in their buildings have to result in significant bottom-line
benefits. |
|
| As a Touchstone Energy
Cooperative, Paulding-Putnam Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PPEC)
has been committed to excellent service and community commitment,
but their old facilities worked in opposition to them. Providing
uninterrupted electrical service can be a life-and-death issue
and facilities can play a key role. |
| CDS was retained to
advise PPEC whether to renovate, rebuild or build new facilities.
The resulting facility assessment study revealed that there
were significant facility condition issues, code problems, and
shortage of appropriate space and site area. The office and
operations facilities need to expand from approximately 23,000
square feet to over 36,000 square feet. |
On-site review of
the existing facilities and site, as well as intensive interviews
with the staff, provided a basis for the assessment and recommendations.
A Design Program was developed that addressed PPEC’s spatial
needs and inefficiencies. Schematic Site Concept Plans were
developed for the different alternatives. The study will be
very useful in helping the Board evaluate alternatives as they
meet to create a new Strategic Plan. Implementing the recommendations
will significantly improve service to the members and enable
PPEC to continue to be an asset to the community.
